Police

It is the mission of the Sky Valley Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens we serve, to reduce crime, and to enhance public safety while working with our citizens to improve their quality of life. We do so with integrity, while conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standards in order to maintain the community’s confidence.

Chief Of Police: Ron Baumes

I would like to begin with the most important part of my life. Thirty-one years ago, I married the love of my life, Annette. Together, we are blessed with six children, sixteen grandchildren, and one great-grandson. My family is my greatest joy, and I am beyond grateful for the love, laughter, and blessings that surround me every day.

My law enforcement career began in 2005 as a night shift jailer at the Rabun County Detention Center. Over the next five years, I was promoted through the ranks, serving as Shift Sergeant (Nights and Days), and eventually Captain/Assistant Administrator.

After leaving the detention center, I joined the Sky Valley Police Department part-time, quickly moving to a full-time night shift position, then to day shift, and eventually to Lieutenant. Now, after 16 years of service to Sky Valley, I have been given the opportunity to lead the department as Chief of Police.

My goal is to continue serving the great people of Sky Valley for many years to come, focusing on community-style policing.

As Robert Peel wisely stated, “The police are the public and the public are the police.”
